In case you guys missed it, Huawei made some pretty bold claims regarding its upcoming octa-core processor, the Kirin 920, saying it would be faster than the Snapdragon 805. That’s a pretty ballsy thing to say considering the Kirin 920 is still in development. Well, the Chinese phone maker will soon have its chance to prove itself when it launches on board its first octa-core handset, the Huawei Honor 6, which has been called the “Mulan” in recent leaks.

The said launch date will reportedly be on June 24 as Huawei has scheduled a press event in Beijing on that date. While it hasn’t been confirmed that it will indeed be the Huawei Honor 6 that will be launched on that date, the teaser for the event reveals enough for us to believe it to be so. And in case you’re wondering why Huawei would jump from the Honor 3 all the way to the Honor 6, the phone maker had previously released the Honor 3C (4th) and the Honor 3X (5th) so the numbered naming scheme arriving at Honor 6 still makes sense.

While Huawei certainly can’t hold a candle to the likes of other international brands, there’s a surprising amount of interest in the handset formerly known as the Mulan. And if the leaked renders are to be believed, it’s going to be a pretty gorgeous-looking phone too! We’ll just have to hang back until the Huawei Honor 6 is eventually announced on the 24th, assuming of course that the rumors are true.
