The very first market-ready tri-folding phone is now here courtesy of HUAWEI. Meet the new HUAWEI Matet XT Ultimate.
Dual-folding phones allow users to carry a tablet-like screen in their pockets with a size of around 7 to 8 inches. But if that’s not enough for you, check out the HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate, which can unfold twice for a much bigger 10.2-inch screen real estate.
That main screen is a flexible LTPO OLED panel with a high 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3184 x 2232 pixels. You can fold the left section back for a 7.9-inch screen, then fold it away for a more traditional, bar-style 6.4-inch smartphone.
What makes it even better is, that despite the large display, the device is incredibly thin. It’s only about 3.6mm when unfolded and only 12.8mm when folded. That’s close to traditional bar phones, which average at around 8mm.
It then has a Tiangong hinge system, named after China’s space station, and enables internal and external bending that uses dual tracks and moving parts to ensure there are no gaps when folded.
It’s built using composite laminate with non-Newtonian fluid components for better durability.
Moving on from the screen, HUAWE didn’t mention what chipset they used on the Mate XT Ultimate. But, we can assume that it’s the Kirin 9010 that’s also found on the flagship Pura 70 series.
HUAWEI then split the silicone-carbide battery cells into three that, in total, provide a large 5,600mAh capacity. It supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless, and reverse wired and wireless charging of up to 7.5W.
For the camera, it has a 50-megapixel main sensor with f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture and optical image stabilization. It is joined by a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom and 12-megapixel ultra-wide. A single 8-megapixel selfie camera is on the large display.
It runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 and will have an upgraded Celia voice assistant, locally known as Xiaoyi in China.
The new HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate is available in China in 256GB model for CNY19,999 (~Php157,200), 512GB for CNY21,999 (~Php172,900), and 1TB for CNY23,999 (~php188,700). No word yet if it will be available in the international market.
