We can’t believe that the first PS5 is almost 4 years old. Now, Sony has released an expected follow-up, the PlayStation 5 Pro.
The design of the new PlayStation 5 Pro is essentially the same as the standard version. There are larger grills on the sides, which should be enough to distinguish it from the non-Pro models.
What’s really new here is the graphics performance. While the hardware uses the same architecture, the PS5 Pro now has more powerful graphics. Its GPU now has 67% more compute units with 28% faster memory.
What does this mean? As per Sony, the upgraded graphics enable 45% faster rendering than the initial version.
The improved graphics also features better hardware accelerated ray tracing. This translates to, as per Sony, 2x to 3x better ray tracing performance than the standard PS5.
Another big improvement is the AI-powered image upscaling. Officially called the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, it utilizes AI and machine learning to upsample games to increase resolution.
With the Pro model, gamers will also receive WiFi 7 connectivity, support for VRR and 8K screens, and a new PS5 Pro Game Boost feature.
The ultimate goal of the improvements to the PS5 Pro is to eliminate the need for users to pick between performance and quality modes.
Select markets can pre-order the PS5 Pro starting September 26 and will officially launch on November 7. It has an SRP of USD699.99 (~Php39,100) in the United States and will come with 2TB of SSD storage, one DualSense wireless controller, and a free Astro’s Playroom pre-installed.
It also comes in a disk-less version and works with the Disc Drive accessory that’s sold separately for the PS5.
