Another day, another affordable phone from Infinix. Here we have the new Infinix Smart 9, which was quietly introduced in Malaysia.
The Infinix Smart 9 has the humble specs and features you’d expect from a budget Infinix phone. For starters, it has a large 6.7-inch display with a high 120Hz refresh rate, but with a low-resolution HD+ display.
A punch-hole on top of the display holds a decent 8-megapixel selfie sensor, and also the stage for Infinix’s Dynamic Bar feature used for notifications. A distinct camera island is on the back for the 13-megapixel main camera and an unspecified auxiliary sensor.
Powering the device is a MediaTek Helio G81 octa-core processor. Infinix claims that the device can provide “48-month fluency,” which means they designed it to feel like new even after four years. Albeit, the fine print notes that doesn’t mean there’s “absolutely no lag.”
The fact that it runs on the efficient Android 14 Go Edition doesn’t give us the confidence it will indeed last for years without lag. Plus, there’s the brand’s XOS 14 interface on top.
On the upside, it managed to get stereo speakers, which is rare for the segment. Plus, it has an IP54 rating for being dust and splash-resistant. It also has a large 5,000mAh battery with only 10W charging.
The Infinix Smart 9 has a 3GB/64GB model listed in Malaysia for MYR299 (~Php3,900), with a 4GB/128GB version coming soon.
