Lenovo officially launches its new budget tablet offerings.

Apparently, tablets aren’t dead yet, or Lenovo just believes otherwise. These new tablets aren’t meant for the power users, though. Instead, both tablets are for the casual users who will just it for mere media viewing, reading, and some social media activity.

For its low price of $79.99 and $99.99, there’s really not much to expect on these two devices. We’ll talk about the pricier model first. Let’s break them down below.

Lenovo Tab 7

The Lenovo Tab 7 runs on a quad-core MediaTek MT8161 chipset paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The 7-inch screen only has 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, but it’s enough for entry-level standards.

The company also managed to squeeze in a 5-megapixel front camera and 2-megapixel rear camera. Interestingly, the front-facing sensor is more pixel-packed than the one at the back. However, it’s quite understandable as tablets are typically used in video calls.

Lastly, there’s Dolby Atmos support for the times that you’d want to get better audio quality than the single speaker.

Lenovo Tab 7 Essential

If you think the Tab 7 is low-end enough, wait until you hear about the Lenovo Tab 7 Essential. While the LCD display has the same 7-inch size diagonally, it’s of lower resolution. It’s only 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, which is a noticeable downgrade from 720p.

The system is powered by a MediaTek MT8161 CPU as well, together with the identical 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. One thing where the Tab 7 Essential is better than the Tab 7 is in the battery department. This device is rated at 20 hours of general usage while the other is only capable of lasting for 15 hours.

Probably the best thing about these two budget tablets lies in its operating system. Despite the mediocre specs, both are running on a relatively dated Android 7.0 Nougat.

Lenovo Tab 7 and Tab 7 Essential are now available in the US. International availability is unknown as of the moment.
