The OPPO Reno series is getting refreshed about twice a year. So, about seven months after its predecessor, the Reno11 Pro 5G officially arrived in the Philippines. We’ve got ourselves a review unit to see how much OPPO was able to improve after a relatively short amount of time.

OPPO’s Reno series is known for being camera-centric and elegant smartphone design. And with the latest iteration, we’re expecting the same to live up to its expectations. In this OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G review, we’ll check out how it was able to deliver in these areas, how the other departments perform, and see how well OPPO was able to improve it.

Design and Build Quality

In terms of design, OPPO did step things up for the Reno11 Pro 5G. The camera island has the same shape as the Reno10 Pro, with the lens layout inside slightly changed for a drastically different look.

In addition, this new Pearl White color that we got looks much better than all of the Reno10 Pro color options combined. It has an elaborate design with reflective accents that look like sparkling pearls and white sands. I like how it makes a statement while staying clean and elegant.

This variant is so good there’s almost no reason to get the Rock Grey color option unless you’re really into black. It may look dark, but it’s not muted thanks to the reflective, glittering design that looks like rocks at the seashore.

While the design shimmers, the rear panel has a matte coating for both colors, which does an impressive job of keeping it clean from fingerprint marks. I wish we could say the same with the camera island. Since it’s made with glass, it easily attracts smudges, and its huge size didn’t help either.

We also appreciate the small design detail that surrounds the camera. Even though the camera bump is quite substantial, it shouldn’t be a big issue nowadays. The rest of the device was thinner, even thinner than its predecessor (7.7mm from 7.9mm).

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Review-5836

The thin design, as well as the curved rear panel and display, makes it really comfortable in the hands, unlike most phones today with sharp edges due to their flat sides. It is also slightly lighter at 181g from the Reno10 Pro’s 185g.

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Review-5844

The build quality seems fine and doesn’t feel like it would easily break. Still, considering the curved display and how thin it is, you probably should use the case included in the box. Don’t worry, as the case is transparent so you can still show off the design. Plus, it barely adds thickness and provides added grip if you’re shooting, gaming, or binging all day.

OPPO has also applied a screen protector on the AGC glass so you don’t have to buy one. Unfortunately, it lacks an official IP rating for dust and water protection, but we did see insulation in the SIM tray, which means it could withstand accidental water splashes.

On the front of the device, we have the 6.7-inch AMOLED display with thin bezels and a punch hole for the selfie camera. There’s a slim grill on top for the earpiece.

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Review-5852

Up top, the IR blaster and noise-isolating microphone sit close to each other for a cleaner look. The surface matches the fancy rear panel as well, which is a subtle yet nice touch.

The bottom has the loudspeaker, USB-C port, primary microphone, and the SIM tray for two nano SIM cards. No microSD card expansion available here. The left side is clean, while the physical buttons on the right feel well-made and clicky.

OPPO did well in the design and build department of the OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G. It has an attractive and elegant design, which might already be enough for some to purchase it.

Display and Sound Quality

One of the fancy things the OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G has is its excellent display. We have a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED curved screen with a 2412 x 1080 pixel resolution, 394ppi,120Hz refresh rate, up to 240Hz touch sampling, 100% DCI-P3 and sRGB, 10-bit color, and HDR10+ certification.

As expected, the display quality is great. The colors are vibrant and the contrast is deep. Plus, the curved edges make the visual experience even more enjoyable. We just wish the screen gets brighter as it’s kind of hard to see in broad daylight.

Like its predecessor, what disappointed us here was the lack of stereo speakers. It’s an odd commission, especially since the cheaper Reno11 5G has it. This makes watching content and playing games less enjoyable.

That said, we’re left with a single bottom-firing loudspeaker which, thankfully, has good performance with a lot of volume, balanced sound, and audible bass for extra depth. It’s not as good as a stereo setup, though.

Hardware and Performance

The OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G is powered by a Dimensity 8200 octa-core processor — one of the most powerful chips from MediaTek meant for sub-flagship phones like this. What’s more, the unit that we got has a generous 12GB of RAM and a massive 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage.

OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G Benchmark Scores

Performance is fast and smooth together with the 120Hz display. Apps launch quickly and multitasking feels like butter — as it should be for that much memory. It’s a reliable daily driver without any issues.

We also appreciate the high 512GB of storage as we can worry-free install triple-A games and shoot a lot of photos and videos.

Gaming performance is satisfactory. Most titles run on Medium to High settings, which is impressive for a device this thin. Genshin Impact, one of the most demanding mobile games around, ran fine on Medium settings, but you can always dial down to Low if you want it smoother.

While it can handle triple-A games fine, it’s not for hardcore gamers as we’ve noticed a relatively quick increase in surface heat, compared to other devices, after gaming for 20 to 30 minutes.

Cameras

The Reno series is known for its feature-packed cameras, and the OPPO reno11 Pro 5G has become better at that. It comes with a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization, a sharp 32-megapixel IMX709 telephoto lens with 2x zoom that’s great for portraits, and a pretty standard 8-megapixel ultra-wide with fixed focus. A 32-megapixel sensor is used for selfies.

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Camera-Quality

For videos, the rear camera can record up to 4K@30fps videos, has a built-in time-lapse mode at 1080p@30fps, and up to 720p@960fps slow-mo recording.

Daylight shots from the main camera look a bit flat. This is refreshing as shots look closer to what your eyes see. Plus, you have the flexibility to edit photos before posting. Dynamic range is not the best but clean enough. Contrast is fine, but I personally like it a bit deeper and expressive.

Low-light and indoor shots have similar colors. The details are still very impressive and the exposure and dynamic range are even more spectacular when you enable Night Mode.

The dedicated 32-megapixel telephoto lens has 2x optical zoom, a focal length that’s great for taking portraits. Color rendering is similar to the main camera, details are sharp, and the dynamic range is great.

Portrait Mode works better here with adjustable background blur. The edge detection is fine and rarely struggles, even in the hair area of the subject where it usually gets tricky. Low-light shots are not the best, but still look appealing to the eyes.

Those who like zooming in on things would like the up to 20x zoom of the Reno11 Pro 5G. It won’t reach the moon unlike other flagship phones, but it’s there in case you need it. As someone with poor eyesight, I find it useful when looking at coffee shop menus on top of the counter while still far behind the line.

As you already know, the quality of the 1x and 2x zooms is the same as the primary and portrait cameras. The 5x and 20x zooms are digital crops, so expect a significant drop in quality.

The image quality from the ultra-wide lens is stunning, even in low light, without any noticeable distortion on the edges. Just don’t zoom in on the details as the 8-megapixel sensor obviously can’t offer the best sharpness.

Finally, we have the 32-megapixel selfie camera that, as expected, takes sharp and detailed selfies with appropriate skin tones. It performs well even in low light.

OPPO really focused on the camera department in the Reno series, and it looks like they continue to do so with the Reno11 Pro 5G.

Software and User Interface

The OPPO reno11 Pro 5G runs on the latest ColorOS 14 interface based on the Android 14 operating system. Like other OPPO phones, the UI feels mature, clean, and straightforward, with the brand’s signature touches. OPPO has promised up to 4 years of software support on select devices, so expect this one to get updates for a long time.

Still, it’s far from perfect. For one, while we do appreciate the ñ keyboard enabled by default in the Philippine model, the layout is kind of off resulting in numerous typos. Anyway, it can be switched to the usual English (US) keyboard easily, thanks to the Google Keyboard.

There are also a few bloatware that cannot be uninstalled. Plus, a few extras on the home screen we don’t really care about, like app suggestions.

Other than that, everything else is pretty great. The Control Center has a bunch of neatly organized and customizable buttons. There’s Global Search that you can instantly access by swiping down from the home screen also shows important stats like steps counter, weather, and smart widgets.

The camera app is easy to use while the built-in remote app, which utilizes the IR blaster on top, is comprehensive and supports almost all types of appliances you might have.

There are a bunch of connectivity features available in the settings like Multi-Screen Connect for other compatible devices and Link to Windows. Sadly, ColorOS doesn’t allow for desktop mode when connecting to an external display via the USB-C port.

Personalization settings are the same as other OPPO phones, even the Always-On Display wallpapers.

ColorOS also offers minor customization for how notifications pop up and the look of the status bar. Meanwhile, the App Cloner lets you easily manage multiple accounts of a single app.

The security and privacy settings are straightforward and can analyze your device to see what you need to do to keep you safe from attacks. We also tested both the under-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock, and both worked fast and accurately during our tests.

OPPO has allocated 17.3GB of storage space for System files, which is pretty standard and barely dents the large 512GB of storage. Oh, and if the roomy 12GB of RAM is still not enough, you can manually use the virtual RAM expansion by borrowing 4GB, 8GB, or 12GB of space from the storage.

If you still manage to overload the hardware, there’s the Phone Manager app that lets you push a single button to optimize things like memory and storage. You don’t really need to, though, as the system is smart enough to manage it on its own.

Battery and Charging Speed

The OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G has a relatively small 4,700mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging.

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Battery-Life

In PCMark’s battery loop test, it was able to last for 9 hours and 23 minutes of screen-on time before dropping to 20% from 100%. That’s substantially shorter than the average score we get, which is about 12 hours.

That said, don’t expect stellar battery performance out of this device. Based on our tests, we would always end the day with only 5-10% of juice left. That’s with hours spent on social media, taking pictures, and watching content online.

OPPO-Reno11-Pro-5G-5835

If you are a heavier user, you’d be reaching for the charger before the day ends, maybe even before you get back home from work. Thankfully, it comes with a very fast 80W charger. A quick 15-minute charge can provide 52% of juice from a completely dead battery. By 32 minutes, it hit 100% but didn’t go completely full until 4 minutes later. See our full test results below:

  • 15-minute charge: 0-52%
  • 25-minute charge: 85%
  • 32-minute charge: 100%
  • 36-minute charge: Full Charge

Verdict

The OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G offers a few but welcome improvements to the already admirable Reno10 Pro 5G. It has a more attractive design, a more powerful processor, a slight bump in battery capacity, and twice the storage capacity.

OPPO-reno11-Pro-Review-5850

If performance is your top priority, you can get better hardware from other brands out there. However, what you may miss out on is the refined software with impressive update support, as well as OPPO’s good after-sales support and service center availability.

With the OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G, you’ll get a snappy processor, ultra-fast charging, great cameras for shooting day and night, and a comfortable yet attractive design — all of which translate to a good daily driver device that can cater to young professionals with a fast-paced lifestyle.
