A few weeks ago, OPPO has announced a new brand under its umbrella. The Realme 1 is teased to be the first smartphone from this sub-brand that plans to take on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.
Now, the company delivers to its promise as the Realme 1 just became official. And unlike OPPO’s usual offerings, the Realme sports an attractive set of features in a more enticing and reasonable price tag — something that Xiaomi is keen on doing in pretty much all of their releases.
To start, the OPPO Realme 1 obviously came from the same mold as the OPPO F7 (read our review). It has a large 6-inch Full HD+ display on the front, although it lacks the display notch so the aspect ratio is still 18:9 instead of 19:9. Unsurprisingly, it is also available in a flashy Diamond Black color variant.
On the downside, we’re not seeing a fingerprint scanner at the back, although it does have the Face Unlock feature, which was made possible by its 8-megapixel front camera and other sensors. A 13-megapixel primary camera can also be found on the back.
And just like the OPPO F7, the Realme 1 is also powered by a MediaTek P60. It might not be as enticing as what the Snapdragon 636 of the Redmi Note 5, but the P60 is actually a good performer as well.
The device runs on the new Android 8.1 Oreo, has tons of AI capabilities, and will also borrow OPPO’s ColorOS 5.0. Other than the branding at the back, there’s no easy way of telling that this is a Realme-branded smartphone.
