Xiaomi’s Redmi A series is probably the brand’s most affordable smartphone. Now, about a year since the A2, we have the Redmi A3 — and it doesn’t look cheap at all.
A MediaTek Helio G36 powers the Redmi A3, a fairly new processor (launched in February 2023) which is apt for its kind of device. Sadly, it’s no upgrade as that’s the same chip found on the Redmi A2 series.
The chip can be had with 3GB, 4GB, or 6GB of RAM — higher than its predecessor. The storage options are 64GB and 128GB.
One of the few upgrades here is the screen. It’s now bigger at 6.71 inches with a smoother 90Hz refresh rate and a decent Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. As expected, it still has an HD+ resolution.
There’s a waterdrop notch for the 5-megapixel selfie camera, an 8-megapixel shooter and a depth sensor on the back. While the sensors are the same as last year, the design gets a major upgrade. There’s a large circular glass for the cameras, which is reminiscent of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, as well as a leather-like finish for the whole rear panel.
Finally, one big upgrade is the OS as it runs on the full Android 14 version instead of the toned-down Android 13 Go edition that the A12 series has.
The Redmi A3 has a price of INR7,299 (~Php4,900), INR8,299 (~Php5,600), and INR9,299 (~Php6,300) for the 3GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, and 6GB/128GB models, respectively. It will be available in India starting February 23. No word when will Xiaomi Philippines be bringing it in the country.
