Samsung has finally confirmed a smaller variant of their flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone. With midrange specs and a likely cheaper price, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini may be the perfect phone for those who find the S4 too big and superfluous.
In a recent press release, the South Korean smartphone maker labeled the S4 Mini as “a powerful, compact smartphone designed to fit busy lifestyles.” As such, the device comes with a 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED display and only weighs 130g. But despite the compact and lightweight design, the S4 Mini still has a respectable 1.7GHZ dual core CPU and 1.5GB system memory. It has an 8GB storage capacity, although around 3GB is reserved for bundled applications. Fortunately, a microSD slot can further expand storage for up to 64GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is also loaded with many of the S4’s preloaded software. For instance, the S Translator allows instantaneous translation to another language via text or voice for apps such as email, SMS messages, and Samsung’s own ChatON messaging service. The 8MP rear-facing camera, along with its 1.9MP front-facing counterpart, is backed by special features such as Sound&Shot, which allows storage for both sounds and images, Panorama Shot, and Story Album. The S Travel app provides travel assistance and can even suggest new locations to visit. On the other hand, some apps like S Health must be downloaded first from Samsung Apps. Most importantly, the Galaxy S4 Mini is powered by the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, while customized by Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

Perhaps in an effort to appeal to people in the enterprise sectors, the smartphone also supports Knox, Samsung’s mobile security solution that provides enough security for the enterprise IT without compromising the employee’s privacy.
