Sharp has introduced a new interesting smartphone. But like its cousins, it looks like the new Aquos Wish will never make it out of Japan.

The new Sharp Aquos Wish is for those who are looking for a real compact smartphone. This one only has a 5.7-inch screen, with an apt HD+ pixel resolution on an LCD panel. That results in a height and width of only 147mm and 71mm, respectively. But it’s quite thick at 8.9mm.

As the size hints, the rest of the specs sheet shows that it’s an entry-level device, albeit still a competent one. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 480 processor, has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and an unsurprisingly small 3,370mAh battery.

There’s a waterdrop notch on the top of the screen for the 8-megapixel selfie snapper. While on the back, we have a single 13-megapixel main camera and an LED flash. We then have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for a straightforward layout.

Despite its budget status, the device appears to be physically tough. It’s IPX5, IPX7, IP6X, and even has MIL-STD-810H compliance for durability. It then runs on Android 11 OS, has a USB Type-C port, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, and of course, 5G connectivity.

The Sharp Aquos Wish comes in three clean colors: Olive Green, Ivory, and Charcoal. It’s expected to be available in Japan in January with the official price yet to be announced.
