SKK Mobile sets their eyes on one of the hottest smartphones today, the Huawei P9.

The company is known for blatantly copying the iPhone multiple times already, but now they’ve changed target. The P9 is arguably one of the most popular Android phones in the Philippines today. Its glamorous design and iconic dual camera setup pushed it to the top, so it makes sense for others to follow suit.

In front, the SKK Hyper X Alpha looks just like every other device out there – a large piece of slab with a screen at the center. Turning it around reveals the fingerprint scanner, ‘dual camera’, and SKK Mobile branding. And yes, it looks exactly like the Huawei P9.

But what’s most nerve-wracking here is the supposed ‘dual camera’ setup. Upon looking at the photo, consumers may think that it has dual cameras, but it doesn’t. The problem here is that if they will not emphasize that it’s not dual camera, people won’t really know. It’s deceiving.

The SKK Hyper X Alpha actually has only (1) single camera. Not two.

SKK Hyper X Alpha Specs

  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Dual SIM, Dual Standby
  • 5-inch HD Display, 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, ~294 ppi
  • 1.3GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
  • Wi-Fi, hotspot
  • 3G, HSPA+
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 8-megapixel front camera
  • GPS, A-GPS
  • Bluetooth
  • 2600mAh battery

As you can see, the phone is not that bad. A 5-inch 720p screen is respectable enough, together with what we assume is a quad-core MediaTek chipset. 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage are enough for most people, too. At its price point, though, there’s already a lot of other options to choose from so it may have a hard time competing.

The SKK Hyper X Alpha is priced at Php4,299. Official release date and availability information are not yet available as of the moment. We’ll update this post once we get the details.
