Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact

LG wasn’t the only one showing off at IFA 2017. Apparently, Sony has also prepared some surprising news for the occasion. One of those revelations are the new Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact.

Judging by the name and the spec sheet, this two follows the recently announced Xperia XZs and XZ Premium. The Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact might be different from its brothers, but they all have a common denominator.

All these Xperia XZ1 devices have Sony’s Motion Eye camera technology with a memory-stacked sensor. They also have the ability to shoot ultra-slow-motion videos at a crazy 960 frames-per-second. A  frame speed that even most professional cameras don’t have.

Both handsets will also feature a Snapdragon 835 chipset — Qualcomm’s best mobile SoC to date. That, plus the mediocre screen-resolution, should result to a blazing-fast performance.

And speaking of the display, this is where the two smartphones will obviously separate ways. The XZ1 will have a 5.2-inch FHD display with HDR support, while the “Compact” version is indeed more compact with its 4.6-inch HD screen, minus the HDR feature.

Besides the visuals, the Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact is also well-equipped in the audio department. It doesn’t have HiFi Quad DAC like the LG V30, but it does support high-resolution audio, LDAC, Stereo Speaker S-FOrce Surround Sound, Qualcomm’s aptX HD Audio, and more.

The two also has an IP68 water resistance certification, a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, USB Type-C, and sandwiched in Gorilla Glass 5. They will also run on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo right out of the box.
