Along with its flagship smartphone, Sony has taken the wraps off of the sequel to the Tablet Z at MWC 2014. The new Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is touted as the world’s lightest and thinnest waterproof tablet.
We’ve already known a lot about the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet in terms of hardware (and even got a first glimpse at its appearance) thanks to the all-knowing @evleaks. To recap, the leaked-and-now-confirmed specs are the quad-core Snapdragon processor, 10.1-inch Triluminos display, 3GB of RAM, and others.
The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is also waterproof, a common feature among the company’s premium devices. At 439g, it’s not cumbersome to hold for long periods. Its profile only measures 6.4mm, hence the claim of being the slimmest tablet. If Sony plays its cards right, this tablet could be the iPad Air killer.

Just like its Z2 smartphone counterpart, the Xperia Z2 Tablet uses the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, it being the basis for the device’s yet another claim as the world’s most powerful tablet. Users will be able to enjoy up to 10 hours of nonstop multimedia experience and at least 100 hours of music playback thanks to the humongous 6000mAh battery. There’s also Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology for faster charge time.
I don’t know a lot of people who can appreciate rear-facing cameras in tablets. Bur for those who do, the Sony Xperia Z2 offers 8.1 megapixels of high performance imaging, coupled with a 2.2-megapixel front-facing shooter for HD video calls. A suite of Xperia apps is also included for enhanced photo and video editing.
Other apps bundled with the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet include Walkman and Movies for access to a wide selection of songs, movies, and TV series. The Album and PlayStation Mobile apps complete the tablet’s entertainment offering. The Z2 Tablet can also mean business by featuring the OfficeSuite Pro 7 and an optional Bluetooth keyboard.
The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is scheduled for a global launch in March 2014.
