Torque Droidz Motion

Torque recently unveiled an interesting quad core phablet priced at just Php7,999. The Torque Droidz Motion features a 5 inch qHD IPS display with a 1.2 GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. That 512MB RAM might be a disappointment, but it supposedly has RAM-saving technology to make up for this deficiency.

Torque Droidz RAM Saving Technology

[two_fifth]Actually, the secret of the RAM-saving technology really comes from the MediaTek MT6589 SoC.[/two_fifth]

Actually, the secret of the RAM-saving technology really comes from the MediaTek MT6589 SoC. Compared to Cortex A5-based quad core chips like the Qualcomm MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q that only have 512KB of L2 Cache clocked at 594Mbps, the MT6589 has twice as much L2 Cache clocked at 1066Mbps. This results in efficient memory management and allows the MT6589 to outperform MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q-based phones and is why you’ll see Antutu scores of 12-13k on Antutu for the MT6589 and 10k for the MSM8225Q/8625Q.

Of course, that also means that ANY phone with the MT6589 processor has this RAM-saving technology, not just the Torque Droidz Motion or Torque Droidz Quad. There are already quite a few MT6589 phones in the Philippine market, although admittedly, the Droidz Quad and the Droidz Motion are among the most affordable in their respective classes to be equipped with the MT6589 processor.

Still, the Torque Droidz Motion is a decent phone with competitive specs. It features dual cameras (8mp autofocus primary camera and VGA front camera), 3G/HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS and an FM Radio. Wired connectivity options include a 3.5mm headset jack and a micro USB port that doubles as the charging port. The battery is pretty respectable at 2,200mAh.

At Php7,999, is the Torque Droidz Motion something you’d be interested in?
