Vivo is starting the year right by finally introducing the new Vivo APEX 2019. A beautiful slab of glass that gives us a peek on what future smartphones would look like.
The Vivo APEX 2019 has a large 6.39-inch AMOLED screen with ultra-thin bezels. And unlike the NEX S and the V11, this entire display act as a fingerprint scanner. So you can unlock the device wherever on the screen.
Unlike the Meizu Zero, Vivo didn’t completely remove the ports on the Apex 2019. Instead, the company is introducing MagPort, an all-in-one magnetic port that can be used for charging and data transfer.
Also, to eliminate the traditional hardware speaker, the Vivo APEX 2019 implements a piezoelectric transducer, which delivers audio right through the screen. Vivo is also removing the physical tactile buttons in lieu of pressure-sensitive capacitive one.
The rest of the specs are pretty top notch too. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, with a whopping 12GB of RAM, an option between 256GB and 512GB of storage, and 5G connectivity.
Vivo even included Qualcomm’s X50 modem, which unlocks 5G connectivity for this device.
It will have a 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel dual cameras on the back. They look very minimalistic and doesn’t have any noticeable camera bump to them. On the downside, Vivo didn’t mention any information about the front-facing camera.
Vivo might still be contemplating whether to bring back the pop-up mechanism on the NEX S, punch a hole on the screen like what the Nova 4 have, or not include one at all (which is impossible considering the company’s big push on selfie technologies).
