Smartphone brands are getting really creative in finding ways to achieve that all-screen design. This time, we’re seeing Vivo doing a different approach to get that goal.

The new Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is a more ludicrous version of the original NEX. Instead of using a mechanical implementation to hide the front camera, Vivo completely removes it for this latest device.

Instead, you’d be taking selfies with its primary camera on the back. And that’s the reason why there’s a secondary 5.49-inch FHD Super AMOLED screen on the back, with the standard 16:9 aspect ratio from the past.

Also, if you’re taking a picture of someone, the subject can see the photo before you take it — perfect for bloggers and Instagram influencers. The rear display can also act as extra control buttons for games and can display custom wallpapers for an extra aesthetic touch.

We actually already saw this implementation on the ZTE Nubia X.

Going back to the camera, what we have here is a 12-megapixel primary shooter with OIS and an a wide f/1.8 aperture, there’s also an extra 2-megapixel shooter, and a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor which is used for 3D mapping for the Face unlock — something that we also saw on the OPPO R17 Pro.

On the front, there’s a 6.39-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen with a 91.64% screen-to-body ratio. It still runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with an impressive 10GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

It runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie with Funtouch OS 4.5, although its 3,500mAh battery is a little uninspiring.
