vivo has officially launched its latest foldable smartphones, the X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, in China. These devices boast a modern design with a circular camera module, a carbon fiber hinge, an alert slider, and extremely bright displays.
Both foldable feature a 6.53-inch OLED outer screen with a resolution of 2,748 x 1,172 and an 8.03-inch folding OLED inner display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and comes with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200, utilizing ultra-thin glass (UTG). They also offer an impressive peak brightness of 4,500 nits, although their typical brightness levels have not been disclosed.
The vivo X Fold 3 series stands out for its slim profile; the Pro version measures 11.2mm thick when folded, and the standard model is slightly thinner at 10.2mm. While not the thinnest on the market, they are more slender than many competitors. The X Fold 3 weighs in at 219 grams, lighter than both the Galaxy S24 Ultra at 233 grams and the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 221 grams.

An intriguing feature of the X Fold 3 series is its reported compatibility with Apple Mac computers. An official Weibo post from vivo mentioned support for various file types like Pages, Keynote, Numbers, PSD, CAD, and remote control functionality with Mac and Windows platforms.
The vivo X Fold 3 Pro model differentiates itself with top-tier specifications, including the first appearance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in a foldable phone, accompanied by 16GB of RAM and options for 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. It houses a substantial 5,700mAh battery, which vivo claims can last up to two days on a single charge, and supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Camera-wise, the vivo X Fold 3 Pro offers a robust setup, featuring a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 64-megapixel telephoto macro lens with 3x zoom and OIS. These are complemented by vivo’s proprietary V3 imaging chip, allowing for advanced video capabilities like 4K Cinematic Portrait mode. Both devices also come equipped with a 32-megapixel selfie camera.
Other notable features of the Pro variant include water resistance with an IPX8 rating, ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensors on both screens, and an infrared blaster.

The standard vivo X Fold 3 has some differences from its Pro sibling, like using the slightly older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which lacks the latest generative AI capabilities. The foldable still offers competitive performance with 12GB to 16GB of RAM, 256GB to 1TB of storage options, a lower 5,500mAh battery, and 80W wired charging capability. Unfortunately, it does not support wireless charging.
The camera setup on the vivo X Fold 3 includes a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x zoom as well as OIS. While these cameras are a step down from the Pro’s on paper, it’s notable that the telephoto lens now includes OIS, an upgrade over the previous generation.
Differences also extend to the fingerprint sensors, with the standard model featuring a side-mounted scanner instead of the under-display type found on the Pro. The standard version is also rated at IPX4 for splash resistance, compared to the Pro’s higher IPX8 water resistance rating.

Currently, the vivo X Fold 3 series is available only in China, with pricing starting at 6,999 yuan (~Php54,500) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration of the standard X Fold 3, and going up to 8,999 yuan (~Php70,100) for the top-tier 16GB RAM and 1TB storage model. The Pro is priced higher, beginning at 9,999 yuan (~Php77,900) for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage option, with the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant priced at 10,999 yuan (~Php85,700).
As of now, the availability of the X Fold 3 series is limited to the Chinese market. vivo has been asked about the potential for a global release, but the company remains mum about it.
