Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the latest character addition to Overwatch 2, a damage hero named Venture, will be available for players to try out at no cost from March 28 to March 31. This limited-time trial period allows players to experience Venture’s abilities before its official release on April 16, coinciding with the commencement of Overwatch 2’s tenth season.

Venture introduces a unique playstyle through their primary weapon, the Smart Excavator, which can fire a seismic charge that detonates after a set distance. Additionally, Venture has the capability to tunnel underground and become immune to attacks, only to resurface with a damaging impact. The hero’s Drill Dash ability propels them forward, forcing enemies back in the process. Venture also comes with two passive abilities: Explorer’s Resolve, offering temporary shields upon ability use, and Clobber, enhancing melee attack damage.

The hero’s ultimate move, Tectonic Shock, has been showcased in gameplay previews, unleashing destructive shockwaves that harm opponents.

The introduction of Venture, who made their debut at BlizzCon 2023 and is notable for being Overwatch 2’s first non-binary character, marks them as the game’s eighteenth damage-class hero.

Blizzard is changing its approach to releasing new characters with the launch of season 10; Venture will be immediately accessible to all players, without being gated behind the battle pass system. Additionally, all previously released heroes will become available to every player, although new players must complete an initial user experience to unlock the roster.

Looking ahead, Blizzard has disclosed plans to expand the Overwatch 2 hero lineup further within 2024, revealing that a new support hero, currently referred to as Space Ranger, is slated for release in season 12.
