Xiaomi has formally introduced the newest member of the Mi 8 family.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is basically a more affordable variant of the Mi 8. Since it’s cheaper, there’s a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset running inside together with up to 6GB of RAM. Software-wise, it’s on Android 8.1 Oreo with Xiaomi’s MIUI custom skin on top.
Even though it’s only a midrange smartphone, the company didn’t remove things like AI scene and object recognition on its 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear cameras. Selfies can be taken using the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite’s 24-megapixel sensor with AI Beautification built-in.
In terms of design, the cameras are on a horizontal orientation as compared to the Mi 8’s vertical implementation. The back panel also has a gradient color similar to the ones made by Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo.
It has a slightly bigger 6.26-inch screen size, but with the same 1080p+ resolution. Unlike the Mi 8, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite only uses an IPS panel instead of AMOLED. It can light up in different colors when taking selfies to help out in providing illumination to the face.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite doesn’t have a huge battery back, but its 3,350mAh capacity can be filled up pretty easily with the help of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.
