The Xiaomi Redmi 6A has finally arrived in the Philippines.
In an event earlier today, Mi Philippines took the wraps off the newest budget phone from Xiaomi. While other entry-level smartphones of the company are already reasonably cheap in their own right, there are people who don’t really need too much firepower for their use cases. That’s why Xiaomi brought the follow-up to the best-selling budget smartphone in the country.
With the success of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, the Redmi 6A definitely has big shoes to fill in. The phone continues the path taken by its predecessor, with several improvements in its core features.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6A now has a bigger 5.45-inch 720p screen with the new standard 18:9 aspect ratio. The overall design and feel are similar to the previous generation, with subtle touches to make it look more modern.
On the inside, Xiaomi switched things up and went with a MediaTek A22 chipset this time around instead of Qualcomm. The RAM is still set to 2GB and there’s an option between 16GB and 32GB of onboard storage. But whichever Xiaomi Redmi 6A model you choose, the choice of adding a microSD card for a storage expansion is available.

In terms of software, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A comes with Android 8.1 Oreo and MIUI 9 out of the box. The company will probably give an update to MIUI 10 soon after they finish testing the software thoroughly. Since it lacks a fingerprint scanner, Xiaomi decided to include the face unlock feature to handle the security department.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6A price starts at Php5,290 for the 2GB/16GB model while the 2GB/32GB version costs Php5,990.
