xiaomi-redmi-note-5-vs-oppo-f7-specs-comparison

Xiaomi has launched their new smartphone here in the Philippines — the Redmi Note 5. Don’t get confused, though. It’s the global version, also known as the Redmi Note 5 in China.

Xiaomi is setting its eyes on other Chinese smartphone manufacturers like OPPO. Their latest releases, particularly the OPPO F7, this company can’t stop bragging about the AI camera features that they have developed.

However, there’s more to these devices than their cameras. Since both devices are fairly new here in the country, we try to figure out which between the two actually offers better features overall. Can the OPPO F7 take on the crowd-favorite Redmi Note 5? Or will Xiaomi repeat the history by coming up with a competition-killer smartphone?

Judging by the specs sheet, the two pretty much ends up in a tie. I know people have a stigma with MediaTek chipsets but in our recent OPPO F7 review, it has proven to be really capable for the price range it is on.

But then, you’d look at their prices and you realize that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 completely blows the OPPO F7 out of the water. Xiaomi’s offering is Php6,000 cheaper at only Php11,990 when compared to the Php17,990 OPPO F7.

Anyway, if you still plan on going with the F7, here are the few good things you’d be getting. It has a marginally bigger screen with the trendy display notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio. A subjectively better-looking design and also a superior 25-megapixel front shooter with a camera app that’s centered around taking selfies.

It may lack a secondary rear sensor, but the single 16-megapixel camera at the back can take good shots all by itself. The device also comes with face unlock, something that the Redmi Note 5 lacks for some reason.

But if you’re going with Xiaomi’s offering, you’re not only going to save a substantial amount of money but also be getting these extra perks. For starters, you will get to enjoy its Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor which is probably one of the best chipsets there is for a midrange smartphone.

There’s also the aforementioned dual rear cameras, an IR blaster if you ever need it, and a notably larger 4000mAh battery.

The OPPO F7 might have won other battles, but those might not be enough to justify the extra Php6,000 that you’d be paying.

But if you end up getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, make sure you to act fast as most of Xiaomi’s handsets, especially this one, can go easily out of stock. It will be available starting May 15 at a price of Php11,990 in Xiaomi’s physical stores in TriNoma and SM Megamall and through their official shops in Lazada.

On the other hand, if you choose the Php17,990 OPPO F7, then you don’t have to worry about its availability. You can score any OPPO device pretty much anywhere — from OPPO kiosks, concept stores, and third-party retailers in malls. They also have a strong presence online via Lazada and Shopee.

  1. 11,990 vs 17,990? Really, so sinong OA ngayon? kayong mga selfie lords na kailangan ng AI to improve the way you look.

  2. Sir, I think this is the China version of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. It has an Oreo OS. The Indian variant is having 20MP front camera and a Nougat OS.

    1. Really? have you tried the Redmi Note 5? my co worker has the F7 and we tried the camera, super terrible, aggressive filtering lol. The pictures are downright terrible! Is this the best A.I. that Oppo can do? With an overpriced price tag (hence they created a new sub brand called Realme to take on Redmi lol.) The Redmi Note 5 leaves your shitty F7 in the dust.
