ASUS used to be the midrange king here in the Philippines. However, they were easily overthrown when companies like Huawei, Vivo, and OPPO arrived in the country.
But with the release of the new ASUS Zenfone 5 2018, the Taiwanese company aims to turn back the things back to how they used to.
The new Zenfeon 5 is yet to be launched in the country, but as per our previous report, it will arrive just in time to go against the new OPPO F7, which is also expected to launch in April.
Despite being official, ASUS is still mum about the Zenfone 5’s pricing. But considering its specs list, this new device will probably compete with a slew of new midrange devices in the country — particularly the new OPPO F7 and Vivo V9.
Now, probably the main reason why you’re here is that you want to know which between the two will be worth your hard-earned money. So without further ado, let’s begin this comparison of OPPO F7 and Zenfone 5 (2018).

It was a really close fight between these two. Both are almost equally created, but each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses.
As what you might have noticed, both devices share the iPhone X-like design. They both have a screen notch on top, resulting in an extra-wide aspect ratio of 19:9. Both phones share the same IPS panel with a Full HD+ resolution as well.
The Zenfone 5 2018 took the copying up a notch with its vertical-oriented dual-cameras at the back. It has a 12-megapixel shooter and an extra 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens. Aside from that, it also has a 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS).
On the other hand, the OPPO F7 didn’t stretch its iPhone X likeliness on the back. Well, that’s because it only has a single 16-megapixel rear camera. It is in this department where the OPPO F7 takes a major beating.
However, OPPO was able to make up for it with its 25-megapixel selfie camera, while the competition only has an 8-megapixel sensor reserved for selfies.

Both devices utilize new chipsets from MediaTek and Qualcomm. The OPPO F7 comes equipped with a Helio P60 while the later sports the new Snapdragon 636 processor.
Their battery capacities difference is almost negligible. The OPPO F7 has a bigger 34,00mAh battery, while the ASUS Zenfone 5 has a 3,300mAh but with Qualcomm Quick Charge support.
At the end of the day, I think it just depends on the pricing. As stated on the table, the OPPO F7 has an official price of Rs. 21,990 in India, which is at around Php17,800 when directly converted in Philippine peso. Meanwhile, what we have about the Zenfone 5 2018 is its rumored price of USD350, which is approximately Php18,200.
If the price difference between the two is really that close, then I think the ASUS Zenfone 5 2018 is the better option mainly because of its better camera configuration, fast-charging support, and a better chipset.
But if the price would spike when it gets in the Philippines, going with the OPPO F7 to save money wouldn’t be a bad option either. As always, take note that this comparison is purely based on their hardware specifications, so real-world usage might vary. We’ll try to pit the two phones against each other again once we get review units.
