The Tegra 4 is the latest and greatest SoC from the folks over at Nvidia, and while it’s already being used on some flagship tablets, it’s yet to be found on a smartphone. That is, until the ZTE U988S surfaced about a week ago along with some renders.
The news is that it’s going to be the first smartphone to come with Tegra 4 on board, which should be great news, especially for gamers who will want to harness the GPU that can come with up to 72 cores! (Eat that, Mali 400) Now, we have a purported leaked image of the said device to get an idea of what we’ll be holding in our hands before deciding to get it once it comes out.
The image reveals very little aside from the aesthetics of the ZTE U988S except that it will sport a 13mp camera. However aside from that, we only have more rumors to rely on. The U988S is said to pack a 5 inch Full HD touchscreen coupled with a Tegra 4 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz and 2Gb of RAM running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. No word yet on storage capacity, but seeing as this is a flagship class phone, I expect it to come in at least a 16Gb variant that can be expanded via micro SD. The entire package shouldn’t be any thicker than 9mm and should cost 1999 Yuan ($320) when it starts rolling out in China.
No news yet when this will be launched or if it will even see an international release. However, since ZTE is an international brand, I would expect this to start rolling out soon after it does get released in China. So how much do you guys think the ZTE U988S will cost when it gets to Philippine shores?
