Blackmagic Design announced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2024 event that their highly popular Blackmagic Camera app is slated for release on the Android platform. This news comes as a welcome development for Android users who have often felt overshadowed by the array of creator-focused apps typically launched first on Apple’s iOS.

The announcement was part of a larger showcase of new products and updates from Blackmagic Design, including the unveiling of the URSA Cine 12K camera and the PYXIS 6K, a box-style camera aimed at a diverse range of filmmaking needs. Additionally, the company discussed forthcoming updates to DaVinci Resolve 19, their flagship color grading and video editing software.

While these announcements stirred considerable excitement, the revelation that Blackmagic Camera app will soon be accessible to Android users stands out as a significant step towards inclusivity in the creator app market. The Android version of the Blackmagic Camera app is expected to mirror the capabilities of its iPhone counterpart, offering a suite of camera control features to content creators who use smartphones as camera for production.

Like the iOS version, the Blackmagic Camera app for Android will be available at no cost. Filmmakers and content creators are encouraged to stay tuned to Blackmagic Design’s official website for the imminent release.
