Blackmagic Design has announced a new iOS camera app for those who are serious about mobile video production. The best part is that, much like its video editing software, the Blackmagic Camera app is free.
The Blackmagic Camera iOS app offers tons of controls and image processing similar to the brand’s actual professional cameras. This will allow users to create Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok videos with a cinematic “Hollywood” look.
You can adjust anything on this app: shutter speed, frame rate, shutter angle, audio levels, ISO, white balance, and lens which should be perfect on the iPhone 15 Pro series‘ multi-camera setup — all with a simple tap of the button in a straightforward interface.
To better monitor your recordings, the interface will have record parameters, focus peaking, levels, histogram, and frame guides — everything you can easily access by swiping.
You can easily focus by tapping the screen, similar to the default camera app on your phone. It can shoot in a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, but since it’s primarily for content shot on mobile, vertical recording is also possible.
Made for iPhones, it can shoot 4K ProRes videos and save them directly to the Blackmagic Cloud, which will then be synced directly into DaVinci Resolve so editing can be done seamlessly by you or a designated editor on a different location — they even include an in-app chat feature so you can collaborate better. Of course, you can also save videos locally.
The Blackmagic Camera iOS app is available to download for free on the Apple App Store here in the Philippines and other markets. No word yet if it will also be available on Android devices.
