AC Energy has begun the construction of a wind farm in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, one that will provide a maximum output of 160 megawatts.

Known as the Balaoi and Caunayan wind farm, AC Energy’s third wind project is said to be the biggest wind farm in the Philippines. Chief development officer Jose Maria Zabaleta also claims it will also be the “lowest-cost renewable energy producer in the country.” The wind farm is composed of 32 Siemens Gamesa 132 and 145 turbines, each providing a max of five megawatts.

The Php11.4 billion wind farm will join other AC Energy wind farms—the 81-megawatt North Luzon Renewables and the 52-megawatt NorthWind. All three are located in Ilocos Norte. Upon completion, the third wind farm will more than double AC Energy’s wind capacity and help the company get closer to reaching its 2025 goal of providing 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy.

The Balaoi and Caunayan wind farm is estimated to finish construction by the fourth quarter of 2022, with full operations scheduled the year after. AC Energy is collaborating with its longtime partner UPC Renewables in completing the wind farm.

AC Energy is the energy platform of Ayala Corporation. Besides wind farms, the company is invested in solar farms and thermal power plants.
