The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 is definitely a device that’s too good for its price. But the thing is, not a lot of people were actually surprised by its feat as it came from a line of bang-for-the-buck smartphones.
Unlike most popular midrange devices today, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 belongs in the much cheaper segment. Clearly, there are a lot of smartphones out there that offers identical hardware, but not a lot of them was able to beat this device’s price tag.
Well, not until now. Just recently, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 was announced which is the first ever release from the standalone sub-brand Redmi. And just like the former, this thing brags a specs sheet that’s just unbelievable for the price.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 is a great device on its own. However, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7’s killer camera and cheaper price tag allowed it to easily outshine the former.
This handset has a 48-megapixel primary camera with a 5-megapixel depth-sensor, which means that it can take a more detailed photo and a decent digital zoom capability. It also allows the device to take better low-light photos, as adjacent sensors merge to form a bigger pixel that allows more light in.
On the other hand, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 only has a 12-megapixel camera partnered with a secondary 5-megapixel sensor. This is actually a decent camera system for midrange devices, but Xiaomi really just changed the game with their new release.
There’s also some subtle, but significant things like the USB Type-C and the IR Blaster. ASUS’ bet doesn’t have both and it still relies on the old micro USB standard.

And of course, there’s the price. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 starts at CNY999 for the base model, around Php7,700 when directly converted to Philippine peso.
On the other hand, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 is available for Php12,995 for the 4GB model, while the 6GB RAM version costs Php14,995.
The Redmi Note 7 is also available in this configuration but is still expected to arrive in the country at a cheaper price. It retails in China for CNY1,199 (~Php9,200) and CNY1,399 (~Php10,800), respectively.
But to the Zenfone Max Pro M2’s credit, it did upstage the Redmi Note 7 in other departments. There’s the Corning Gorilla Glass 6, versus the Redmi Note 7’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
It also runs on a cleaner, stock-Android UI, and a more advanced speaker drive. The Redmi Note 7 might have Quick Charge 4.0 support, but the Zenfone Max Pro M2 will not require you to recharge faster as it has a bigger 5,000mAh battery good enough for up to two days of usage.
So if camera quality is not a top priority, then spending more on the Zenfone Max Pro M2 might not be such a bad idea. After all, it also has the same 6.3-inch FHD+ screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, and an Adreno 512 GPU.
MI phone is better priced whreas Asus has better configuration. with 6 GB ram and 5000 mAh battery, it looks like a great bet.
