Despite having been on the market for approximately two and a half years, Windows 11 has yet to surpass its predecessor. Windows 10 remains the dominant force in the operating system landscape, with a majority of PC users sticking to the tried and tested platform.
As many of our readers are likely well-aware, Microsoft’s nudges towards upgrading to Windows 11 have become a familiar occurrence. However, for the most part, these prompts have been easy to dismiss, allowing users to continue with Windows 10 undisturbed.
Now, Microsoft is gearing up to introduce a new source of irritation for its loyal Windows 10 user base. The tech giant is pushing users to transition from using local accounts to online Microsoft accounts by explaining its benefits on the official Windows blog.
While some may appreciate the integration of Microsoft’s cloud services, others may prefer the privacy that comes with a local account, where their data is confined to their own devices. Ultimately, the choice should lie with the user, free from persistent prompts to switch to a Microsoft account.

How to disable Microsoft account notifications
Those who wish to maintain the use of a local account on Windows 10, can indeed do so, with the added bonus of being able to disable the prompts encouraging a switch to a Microsoft account.
To stop these notifications, users can navigate to the Settings app and select the Privacy option, then proceed to the General section. Here, simply toggle off the “Show me suggested content in the Settings app” setting.
Additionally, there’s a small “X” icon adjacent to the “Sign in now” button on the Microsoft accounts banner. Clicking this will also remove the notification.
It’s clear that while Microsoft is eager to promote Windows 11 and the use of Microsoft accounts, many users remain content with the functionality and privacy offered by Windows 10 and local accounts. With these simple settings adjustments, users can maintain their preferred user experience without any issues.
