Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (or ML) is a mobile game with millions of players worldwide, but its dominance is concentrated in Southeast Asia. The game has also created a strong community supporting the MOBA since its introduction in 2016.
This led many young and skilled gamers to build their gaming careers on ML and even earn serious money, one of which is through the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League, commonly known as MPL.
In this article, let’s take a closer look at what MPL is and its relevance to the Mobile Legends Community.
What does MPL mean in Mobile Legends?
MPL translates to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League, the recognized competition determining the regional representatives for two of the most prestigious annual Mobile Legends competitions.
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asian Competition (or MSC)
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship (M World)
The top teams of each MPL will represent their respective regions to compete in the MSC and M World Championship, which are tagged by Liquipedia as S-tier tournaments because of their huge prize pools, going close to $1 Million.
What are the current MPLs in Mobile Legends?
There are eight recognized Mobile Legends Professional Leagues in the world. However, the MPL Myanmar is currently on pause.
- MPL Philippines (PH)
- MPL Indonesia (ID)
- MPL Malaysia (MY)
- MPL Singapore (SG)
- MPL Myanmar (MM) – temporarily paused
- MPL Cambodia (KH)
- MPL Brazil (BR)
- MPL Middle East & North Africa (MENA)
The MPL is highly concentrated in Southeast Asia, so the first MPLs were established here, namely, MPL Philippines, MPL Indonesia, and MPL Malaysia/Singapore (now two separate leagues).
However, through the years, more countries and regions joined the MPL and started hosting their own ML Professional Leagues, including Myanmar, Cambodia, Brazil, and the Middle East.
On the other hand, teams that don’t fall under any professional leagues in their countries will have to join a regional qualifier circuit.

What is the franchised league model in Mobile Legends?
Aside from these leagues, Moonton also included a franchised league model, similar to regular sports leagues, allowing other organizations to handle the rules and format of their season.
Along with the franchise league model comes the Mobile Legends Development League or MDL, first applied in Indonesia, followed by the Philippines.
The MPL brand is expected to grow as its annual competitions and rewards continuously increase, attracting teams and players from different parts of the world. Though the world competitions are currently dominated by SEA teams, it will not be surprising to see other teams from other regions take the championship.
