2K Games has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated NBA 2K25. The game is set to hit the market on September 6 later this year. Alongside the release date, the publisher also unveiled details about the different editions, cover athletes, and initial gameplay features.

NBA 2K25 cover athletes and editions

This year’s edition of the popular basketball simulation game will feature a diverse lineup of cover athletes. Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, reigning NBA Champion, will grace the cover of the Standard Edition. Tatum will also appear on the cover of the All-Star Edition, sharing the spotlight with A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP and back-to-back WNBA Champion, will be featured exclusively on the cover of the WNBA Edition. Lastly, Vince Carter, arguably the NBA’s most prolific dunker, will be gracing the Hall of Fame Edition cover.

The decision to feature both an NBA and WNBA star on the global cover of the All-Star Edition marks a first for the NBA 2K series. According to 2K, this choice celebrates the growing popularity of basketball worldwide.

Gameplay enhancements

One of the major updates in NBA 2K25 is the expansion of the MyNBA mode, which will now include a sixth era. However, this new feature will not be available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. Similarly, the game’s multiplayer crossplay functionality will be exclusive to current-generation consoles.

2K has also promised significant improvements in animations, powered by an upgraded ProPLAY technology. This advanced tech will be supported on the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Neighborhood metropolis and quests

For current-gen players, NBA 2K25 will introduce a brand-new Neighborhood metropolis. Much like its predecessor, this new location will offer players numerous quests and opportunities to earn various rewards.

NBA 2K25 pricing and freebies

NBA 2K25 will be available in various editions, priced between $59.99 and $149.99, depending on the platform and version. The All-Star Edition, one of the more premium options, includes 100,000 Virtual Currency (VC) coins and an array of MyTEAM content such as Player, Amethyst Coach cards, and Shoes. Additionally, players will receive Gatorade Boosts, Takeover Skill, Electric Skateboard skin, and Jayson Tatum’s jersey. A notable inclusion in the All-Star Edition is a NBA League Pass 12-month subscription.
