We’ve shared plenty of battery tips before, ranging from the best battery management apps to adjusting settings for optimal efficiency. One more couldn’t hurt, so here’s another nugget of wisdom: remove the case while charging.
Xiaomi recently posted an article on how to maximize smartphone charging speed, and one of the tips is to charge your smartphone with its case removed. While phone cases provide protection, they can also trap heat during charging. This may slow down the charging process and degrade the battery over time.
Naturally, Xiaomi advises users to remove the smartphone’s case while it is charging and only reattach it afterward for the added protection (and personalization to boot). Similarly, the company recommends charging in a cool environment and to avoid leaving gadgets in direct sunlight or near sources of heat.

Thermal management is important for smartphones and other electronic devices. Lithium-ion batteries in smartphones are vulnerable to heat and may deteriorate faster when subjected to high temperatures. Moreover, the charging process itself produces heat, and your phone may not be able to dissipate the heat efficiently if it has its case attached while charging.
Besides the removal of the case, the Xiaomi article lists the usual recommendations, such as using of original charging accessories, updating to the latest software, and even restarting the device. Tips like these help make sure your smartphone battery remains functional and efficient for quite a while before you see signs that it needs replacement.
