In promoting the plants and animals endemic to the island of Siargao, the province’s politicians endorse a game application that tackles the topics.

Dubbed the Siargao Flora and Fauna Puzzle, the game app makes learning about the region’s natural species fun and safe for children.

Made in tandem with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NCRP) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the app is being made accessible to kids with a call to the parents to make the download, per Surigao del Norte 1st District Representative Francisco Jose Matugas II.

A game based on facts, the Siargao Flora and Fauna Puzzle results from the study, analysis, inventory, and biological field survey of Del Carmen’s Mangrove Forest within Siargao Island.

The island of Siargao, care of the National Integrated Protected Area System (NIPAS), has one the largest protected areas, which includes the locale’s mangrove forests. However, it is only the second largest within Mindanao at 8,620 hectares, and a single forest block measuring 4,200 hectares.

Funded by the NCRP, a team of researchers committed to the research and assessment, as spearheaded by CRP Division of Biological Services member Dr. Cecilia Banag-Moran.

You can download the Siargao Flora and Fauna game at the Google Play Store.
