Online features of video games don’t last forever. Developers will eventually end support of their games and shut down the multiplayer servers, leaving players without the means to match and play with friends and other people online.

Fortunately, if a game is popular enough, a dedicated fan base will come up with their own unofficial online community server. Case in point: a community of Command & Conquer fans developed and maintains the CnCNet service that provides online functionality to the decades-old Yuri’s Revenge even to this day.

The CnCNet website displays the current number of players online, and as of this writing there are hundreds of players on Yuri’s Revenge. There’s also a breakdown on what other games the players are currently playing. Yes, CnCNet also offers online services for other Command & Conquer games as well as their modded versions.

Note that CnCNet offers the online multiplayer services for free. What’s the catch, you ask? Well, you still need to get and install a legit copy of the game. You can buy it from Electric Arts’ Origin website here, or get it through the monthly EA Play subscription (like PC Games Pass).

Try Mental Omega mod and expansion pack

If you even want more of Yuri’s Revenge, you may try the unofficial expansion pack called Mental Omega: http://mentalomega.com

Not only does it rebalance the existing game mechanics, but the mod also adds new interesting units and even a storyline and campaign. As if that were not enough, the mod also adds a new playable faction called Foehn Revolt.
