National Security Adviser Secretary Eduardo Año said that a total TikTok ban in the Philippines is possible if the platform is proven to be used by the Chinese government for cyberattacks and espionage.

In a statement, Año said that there’s a huge possibility that the app from China is used to gather the private details of its users.

The security adviser said that he would not hesitate to make a recommendation to totally restrict TikTok access in the Philippines if there is sufficient evidence that the Chinese government is using the platform to execute cyberattacks against the Philippines.

Other than the Philippines, government from countries like the United States, Canada, and Europe have also escalated in recent months their efforts to ban TikTok in their respective regions citing security threats.
