Millions of Filipinos have signed in to get a Philippine Identification System National ID (PhilSys). The problem is, a lot of these cards are yet to be distributed. To address this, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) sent out a public advisory last October 5 stating that those who have registered can get a downloadable copy of the ID.

“This is to inform the public and all relying parties of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) on the use and acceptance of the various formats of the PhilSys digital ID, including the printed ePhilID (electronic Philippine ID), as a valid and sufficient proof of identity and age, subject to authentication,” the PSA advisory writes.

As per the PSA, the launch of the PhilSys digital ID will allow registrants to already enjoy the benefits of being registered to PhilSys while they wait for the physical ID.

Such benefits include access to more financial institutions and social protection services in line with Section 7 (c) (1) of the Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act of 2018.

PSA said that registrants can get the digital copy, a.k.a ePhilID, in different formats.

“They can claim their ePhilID subject to its availability, by setting an online appointment, and presenting their transaction slip to their selected PhilSys Registration Centers on the reserved date,” the PSA explains.

PSA reassures Filipinos that the ePhilID is enough as proof of identity as it displays the owner’s PhilSys Card Number (PCN) and basic information like name, blood type, sex, marital status, birth date, and place, photo, address, generation date, and a QR code.

The agency said that the QR code contains a few demographic details and the owner’s image for easier verification. Plus, the QR code utilizes public-private key cryptography to make sure the information cannot be tampered with.

To ensure its authenticity, the ePhilID can also be verified using the PhilSys Check system.

While you wait, here’s how you can track your National ID delivery to check its status.
