Social media has definitely redefined how people communicate with their family, friends, and colleagues. But while it’s great that we can do instant messaging on demand, sometimes it’s quite annoying to see faces floating around in the form of Facebook Messenger chat heads.
By default, Facebook Messenger for Android activates chat heads as soon as you sign-in on the app. Not everyone likes it, as it blocks precious screen estate and it pops-up often, especially if you are receiving tons of messages.
If you’re like me who gets annoyed by Messenger chat heads, there’s a way around it. The easiest way to do it is to simply dismiss it by dragging it down to the bottom part of the screen. But if you can’t really take it, the feature can be permanently disabled.

Disable Facebook Messenger chat heads permanently
Step 1: First, you would need to go to the main Messenger app or through a currently open chat head.
Step 2: Click your small profile icon on the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 3: Once inside the settings, scroll all the way down until you find the “Chat Heads” option. Simply toggle it off so you would no longer see any chat head ever again. In case you want to bring it back, just toggle the slider back to on.
That’s it! Removing chat heads on the Messenger app is a quick and easy process. If you have any questions regarding this guide, feel free to drop a comment below so we can help you out.
