The Philippines is lagging in 5G network performance compared to its Asia-Pacific neighbors, according to Opensignal’s September 2024 report.
The network analytic company’s benchmark in September 2024 shows the Philippines scoring only 146.3 Mbps in 5G download speed experience, which ranks the country fourth lowest among the 13 countries analyzed in the APAC region. Even worse, the country ranks last amongst these countries in 5G upload speed experience with a score of 13.2 Mbps.
In comparison, South Korea leads the region with impressive 5G download and upload speeds of 427.5 Mbps and 52.2 Mbps, respectively. This advantage is largely due to the country’s early investments in 5G network development, having been the first to launch a public 5G network in 2019. Malaysia ranks second in download speed with a rate of 295.5 Mbps, while Taiwan holds the same distinction in upload speed for achieving 35.4 Mbps.
