It looks like the government is really close on naming the third telco player in the Philippines.
Mislatel, a consortium formed by China Telecom and Davao City businessman Dennis Uy’s Udenna Corp and Chelsea Logistics, was hailed as the only remaining bidder as two of its competitors were disqualified.
Sear Telecom, the consortium that was started by the former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson and TierOne Communications, failed to provide the Php700 million security fee that was required to stay in the race — as per Ellen Blanca Lopez of the NTC legal department.
Also, the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp (PT&T) also missed one of the requirements as it failed to provide a “certificate of technical capability” from the different markets that it operates.
Sear Telecom had previously questioned the rules and requirements of the bidding process — citing that the Php700 million participation fee was added near the last minute.
PT&T also went to the Makati City court to present this problem.
