Prior to this agreement settled by one of the world’s leading names in technology, Apple was sued for apparently slowing down their iPhones due to their new models. This, in turn, prompts users to purchase replacement phones or batteries.

The company has agreed to settle these allegations by paying up to USD 500 million. However, the U. S. District Judge, Edward Davilla, still needs to approve the said proposal. There is also a call for Apple to compensate their consumers an amount of USD 25 for every iPhone unit. This is negotiable, with a minimum payout of USD 310 million.

The settlement also includes coverage of U. S. owners of the following models:

  • iPhone SE (with iOS 10.2.1 or later operation systems)
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus

This also includes iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which ran on iOS 11.2 (or later) before December 21, 2017. Apple also had issues with regards to disabling old chargers and more.

Court paper reads that Apple denied these accusations and have settled this nationwide issue to prevent the burdens and costs of litigation. Apple proceeds to connect the problems complained by consumers towards temperature changes, high usage, and other such related concerns. But they were able to resolve the matter as their engineers were able to address the problem successfully.

Meanwhile, the consumers’ lawyers have characterized the settlement as something “fair, reasonable, and adequate.”

Last month, Apple was also fined EUR 25 million because of the same issue.
