Google has announced Chromebook Plus, a new category of premium Chromebooks with faster, better specs.

In order to get the “Plus” certification, Google requires manufacturers to ensure that their laptops meet specific hardware specifications. For starters, the CPU must be an Intel Core i3 12th Gen or higher, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or higher. There must also be a minimum of 8GB of RAM, at least 128GB of storage, and a web camera with 1080p+ resolution with temporal noise reduction. Furthermore, the display must be Full HD IPS or better.

With the updated hardware specs, Chromebook Plus laptops will offer improved camera functionality, including AI-powered video conferencing features like noise cancellation and background blurring. The laptops also have Google Photos Magic Erase and a web-based Adobe Photoshop for photo editing. A File Sync feature ensures offline access to Google Drive files with the 128GB storage.

Google has partnered with Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo to create eight new Chromebook Plus laptops. The search giant says these laptops will offer performance that is twice as good as the best-selling Chromebooks from July to December 2022.

Here are the eight announced laptops:

  • Acer Chromebook Plus 515
  • Acer Chromebook Plus 514
  • ASUS Chromebook Plus CM34 Flip
  • ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34
  • HP Chromebook Plus 15.6 inch
  • HP Chromebook x360 14-inch
  • Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook Plus
  • Lenovo Slim 3i Chromebook Plus

The new Chromebook Plus laptops will start selling in the US on October 8. Price starts at $399 (approx. Php22,600).
