How much do you think a cheap Windows Phone should cost? For Cherry Mobile, it’s just Php2,999. The company recently unveiled its Cherry Mobile Alpha Style, a 4-inch smartphone powered by Windows Phone 8.1.

Like its mid-range brother Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe, the entry-level Cherry Mobile Alpha Style employs a Snapdragon 200 processor and Adreno graphics. The memory and storage, however, have been halved to just 512MB and 4GB, respectively. The cameras have also been downgraded: 5-megapixels at the back and a VGA sensor in front.

Cherry Mobile Alpha Style Specs

  • Windows Phone 8.1
  • 4-inch IPS LCD touchscreen
  • 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8212) processor
  • Adreno 302 GPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • microSD support up to 32GB
  • 5-megapixel main camera, with LED flash
  • 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Dual SIM with dual standby
  • 3G HSPA
  • Bluetooth

Other specs of the Cherry Mobile Alpha Style remain the same as the Alpha Luxe: dual SIM, 3G connectivity, and Bluetooth. Some specs, such as battery capacity, haven’t been specified. Personally, I really look forward to knowing if Cherry Mobile’s WP-powered smartphones come with the Cortana voice assistant.

The Cherry Mobile Alpha Style will start selling later this month for only Php2,999. You’d be lucky to find other Windows Phone devices at this price point. Perhaps there will be more: Microsoft and its Windows platforms have been continuously trumped by iOS and Android, but it looks like the company is now trying to fight back by partnering with OEMs and lowering their licensing cost.
