Cherry Mobile no longer has to rely solely on original design manufacturers (ODM) to produce its smartphones. By owning a controlling interest of Jiayu, the company can now design and manufacture mobile devices itself.
Jiayu, to the unaware, is a Chinese handset maker that’s known for its G and S series of affordable smartphones. The Jiayu S3 in particular is basically the Flare X that we’ve seen in 2015.
Per reports, Cherry Mobile already made the purchase of shares last year, but they kept the information private. Jiayu will remain selling smartphones under its own brand, particularly in international markets such as countries in Europe. But now that Cherry Mobile holds significant influence in the business operations of the ODM, Filipino consumers may enjoy smartphones of better quality and lower prices in the near future.
