Cherry Mobile’s latest smartphone reveal is one that comes with an “iconic” back design and a unique front camera. Introducing the new Cherry Mobile Omega Icon for Php6,499.
First, the design. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 arguably first popularized a faux leather design, but, since it’s been proven to be both durable and gorgeous, others have followed suit. The Cherry Mobile Omega Icon is one fine example, with its chrome side accents and a 5-inch IPS LCD that touts a Dragontrail glass protection. For the record, Cherry Mobile is naming the back material as pleather (presumably meaning plastic leather), but it’s likely more or less the same thing as faux leather.
Next, the Cherry Mobile Omega Icon is also characterized by a 5-megapixel front camera with its own LED flash. Other smartphones may have their rotating cameras or dual rear cameras with dual LED flash, but the Icon has gone for the “dual cam with dual flash” route–an ambiguous term at that. But I personally can’t believe no other company has thought of local companies haven’t thought more of this feature before, given that we’re known for taking selfie shots quite a lot. Then again, this feature may find itself only a niche market.

The remaining specs of the Cherry Mobile Omega Icon are of the norm for a smartphone with a Php6,499 price tag. Inside the device is a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, along with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 302 graphics. There’s a measly 4GB internal storage that can be expanded externally up to 32GB via the microSD slot. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean runs out of the box.
Per the official Facebook announcement, the Cherry Mobile Omega Icon is now available. Interested buyers should be able to grab a unit at accredited stores and dealer nationwide. There’s a free USB cable available for every purchase.
