Earlier this month, we covered a barrage of upcoming Cherry Mobile smartphones to be released just in time for the holidays. Marketed as one of the 12 Cherrys of Christmas, the new Cherry Mobile Rave 2.0 differs from the rest by offering NFC connectivity.

For its suggested retail price of Php8,999, prospective buyers can enjoy a quad-core Cherry Mobile handset with a 5.3-inch touchscreen. The rear camera can take pictures up to 12 megapixels resolution, coupled with a 2MP front-facing camera. Other specs include 4GB internal storage and 1GB RAM. Just like many of its siblings, the Cherry Mobile Rave 2.0 also comes with a dual-SIM configuration.

Cherry Mobile Rave 2.0 Specs

  • Android OS
  • 5.3-inch IPS LCD (960×540 qHD), ~208ppi
  • 1.2GHz quad-core mobile processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • 12-megapixel main camera, with LED flash
  • 2-megapixel front camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11
  • NFC

So what’s this NFC all about in the Cherry Mobile Rave 2.0? It stands for near-field communication, a simple and convenient way for capable devices to share content by just tapping each other. (Google calls this feature the Android Beam in its operating system.) And what better way to make good use of NFC than a free speaker? That’s right, Cherry Mobile is bundling a BS1 NFC Speaker with the Rave 2.0. It’s the only device in CM’s Christmas offerings to do so, given that smartphones such as the W900 LTE, Hero, and Amber offer a free bag tag, Powerbank, or phone case instead.

There’s not much available info when it comes to connectivity beyond NFC and the unspecified Wi-Fi, though we can safely assume GPS and Bluetooth is also in the device. 3G connectivity should be there, though just for the main SIM module. As for other unverified specs, users can certainly expect external storage expansion when internal storage is just a measly 4GB.
