Today’s the launching of the MyPhone Rio 2, and we have some photos of this much anticipated successor to last year’s popular midrange handset.

So what’s difference between the MyPhone Rio 2 and its predecessor? A couple of things. First off, the price is now Php5,499 instead of Php4,999. Justifying the Php500 increase in price is the internal storage, which has doubled from 4GB to 8GB. Instead of 2 megapixels, the front camera now boasts 5 megapixels in resolution. The MyPhone Rio 2 is also slimmer by 0.7mm at 8.6mm. Another important improvement is the larger battery capacity—2800mAh instead of 2000mAh—for longer hours of usage on a single charge. On top of all these changes is the pre-installed Android Lollipop, which introduces a fresh and intuitive user interface. It also looks like the Rio 2 has gotten rid of the physical capacitive buttons in favor of on-screen buttons.

There seems to be no downgrades in the MyPhone Rio 2, although a lot of the specs remain the same. For starters, it’s still stuck with 1GB of RAM, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor (the model of which is unspecified, but we’re guessing it’s the same MediaTek MT6582M chip), and a 5-inch screen with an IPS LCD panel. The main camera remains at 8 megapixels in resolution, but the revealed specs also mention that it uses a Sony sensor, which perhaps could mean an improvement in the photo and video quality.

Don’t take in the official description—5.0″ IPS HD Full Lamination—to mean that the MyPhone Rio 2 has Full HD resolution. The display is still 720p or HD, and it has a Full Lamination for low light reflection without compromising color quality.

Once again, the MyPhone Rio 2 is set to sell for Php5,499. Expect to spot it on your local MyPhone store in the coming weeks. Like its predecessor, it’s available in a variety of colors.
