The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is starting up strong with the introduction of a new flagship chipset from Qualcomm. Here we have an amped-up version of its current top-tier processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus.
Like the other Snapdragon Plusses, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus has modest but quite substantial upgrades over the standard Snapdragon 888. For starters, the 2.8GHz clock speed is now at 3.0GHz.
It’s still the same chipset that uses an ARM Cortex-X1, only with a higher clock speed.
The 6th-gen Qualcomm Hexagon 780 AI chip improved the AI engine with its 32 tera-operations-per-second processing. That’s up from the 26TOPS of the previous model.
Other than that, everything is the same. It’s still partnered with an Adreno 660 GPU. Plus, a Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G modem that can handle up to 7.5Gbps download speed. There’s also the FastConnect 6900 for all the current WiFi standards that offer top-notch download speeds.
Smartphones with the new Snapdragon 888 Plus will come out in Q3 2021. Brands like Motorola, Xiaomi, ASUS, and Vivo already confirmed to utilize the new chipset in their upcoming releases.
