A new smartphone is coming, and it’s one that will surely turn heads for being the first in the local mobile market to sport a USB Type-C port. Its name? The Redfox Aurea.

Redfox, to the uninitiated, is an IT company in the Philippines that manufactures computers and electronic components. It’s not the usual company that comes to mind when smartphones are the topic of conversation. Nonetheless, Redfox unveiled a couple of smartphones before the Aurea, such as the Horizon and WizPhone.

So, is the Aurea really a luxurious smartphone that Redfox claims it to be? Preliminary specs seem to indicate a handset in the upper midrange category: Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, 5.5-inch 720p display, 13-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 4G LTE connectivity, and a fingerprint sensor. Aurea also comes with a fast charging, 2500mAh battery that reaches full charge in just 40 minutes.

And as mentioned above, the Aurea will take advantage of the USB Type-C port. It’s the version that can be plugged in either orientation—no more guessing which way is up! Not many smartphones currently have this feature. Even the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are sticking to the plain, old microUSB port, if the leaked press renders are to be believed.

Redfox has yet to reveal the price and availability of the Aurea smartphone.
