Redmi-K30-Pro-Snapdragon-865

Xiaomi has always been the forefront in releasing smartphones at lower cost for insanely great specs. In 2018, it broke the smartphone industry when it released the Pocophone F1, a mid-range device under sub Php20K with flagship Snapdragon processor.

Last year, in order to fill the gap left by the Pocophone F1, Xiaomi, through its sub-brand Redmi, launched the Redmi K20 series. The device came with high-end specs but for a midrange price tag.

That is why, it didn’t come as a surprise that many are anticipating the release of its successor, the Redmi K30 series.

After various leaks and speculations, the hype is indeed real. According to a Twitter post by a reliable leaker, Ishan Agarwal, the upcoming Redmi smartphone will sport the latest Snapdragon 865.

However, there’s a catch — there will be compromises. As mentioned by Agrawal, the upcoming K30 Pro will sport a Snapdragon 865 which means that its performance will be at par with other high-end smartphones. Besides, it will be cheap. Agrawal mentioned that it will be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest smartphone to have Snapdragon 865.

Unfortunately, he also said that since the focus has been on the performance, people shouldn’t expect much on other aspects of the device. He specifically mentioned the camera. Basing it on past releases of Xiaomi, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the cameras will be bad, but rather will underperform compared to other handsets in its category.

The Redmi K30 series is expected to launch by the end of March. According to Redmi Product Director Wang Teng, the price will not exceed CNY 3,000 (~Php 22,000) but it will be cheaper than the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.
