Samsung recently unveiled two new smartphones. The new Samsung Galaxy A5 is a 5-inch midrange smartphone, whereas the Galaxy A3 is a 4.5-inch entry-level handset.
Intended to be pitted against Xiaomi products, the new Galaxy A Series offers entry to mid-level specs inside a premium all-metal unibody build (and not just a metal frame found in the Alpha). Both the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 are also notable for having very slim profile. The former is only 6.7mm thick, while the latter measures 6.9mm. That makes them thinner than and just as thick as the iPhone 6, respectively.
Samsung Galaxy A5 Specs
- Android 4.4 KitKat
- 5-inch Super AMOLED (720×1280 HD), ~294ppi

These two devices have similar specs. They both use a quad-core processor and run Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy A3, however, is inherently inferior for having a smaller display, less powerful main camera, and half the amount of RAM as the A5.
With features like a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and Beauty Face, the Galaxy A3 and A5 have been designed to allure young consumers who go gaga over taking selfie shots. A wide array of selfie features is available, such as Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, and Rear-Cam Selfie. Naturally, the phones also offer convenient sharing of photos and videos on social networks.

Overall, the Galaxy A5 is an important step forward in terms of design. With the performance of most devices being very similar for daily tasks, Samsung has found it hard to differentiate and convince users that its premium priced devices are worth the money.
