The ruggedized version of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone has arrived. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active sports a new look that perfectly suits with its increased durability.

Apart from a unique exterior, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is pretty much the same as the original S5. It’s still the same 5.1-inch device with a 1080p Super AMOLED, powered by a speedy Snapdragon 801 and Adreno 330 graphics. There’s at least 16GB of onboard storage, with a microSD expansion up to 128GB.

The S5 Active is also water-resistant and dust proof, and its sturdier, shock resistant body further lets it withstand more against the “bumps and bruises of everyday life.” The added durability, however, made the device thicker, but only slightly.

But there’s also one noticeable feature that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has done without in favor of its ruggedized form; there’s no fingerprint sensor here. The front capacitive buttons have also been replaced by physical ones, while a side button has been added as a shortcut for launching outdoor-related apps. Other features, such as the built-in heart rate monitor, remain.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Active back

For now, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active remains an exclusive device to the US carrier AT&T, which sells it for $199.99 with a 2-year contract. Available in three colors (camo green, titanium grey, and ruby red), its regular price is listed as $714.99 (approx. Php31,300). There’s no word yet on a Philippine release.
